Only one Norfolk project and one Norfolk architecture studio were amongst the four winners at the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors’ Eastern Region building awards last night. The Awards considered projects from Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex, Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire, so the Pennoyer Centre in Pulham St.Mary did well to win the ‘Community Benefit’ award, and be shortlisted in the ‘Conservation’ category.
Terry Hickman Smith and Matt Wood of Wymondham-based architects Lucas Hickman Smith accepted the award from Michael Newey, RICS Vice-President, and Chief Executive of the Broadland Housing Group, whose offices are at Carrow Road football ground – so there was a Norfolk flavour throughout. This is not the project’s first accolade: last year the scheme won an Environmental/Architectural Award from the Campaign for the Protection of Rural England, and a South Norfolk Design Award from South Norfolk Council.
