LHS Director Matt has been asked to talk about the Community Right to Build (CRTB) at Norwich property-event ‘Foundation Works’ at the Forum on Tuesday 14th May. Matt has been interested in the CRTB since it was announced back in 2010, and has written about it extensively on his blog Ruralise
The CRTB allows communities to grant their own local planning permissions if their proposals are approved by a majority in a formal referendum. Matt will suggest that take-up of the new powers has been slow because their purpose and potential has not been well explained, and that the CRTB could become an important new method of funding community-led projects.
Matt will explain the origins and evolution of the Community Right to Build, and conclude by outlining progress to date on a live CRTB project we are leading, one of only a tiny handful under way in the whole country.
